My Skin Healing Journey

I was 24 when I began breaking out with cystic acne and nothing seemed to heal it. I was spending hundreds of dollars on chemical peels, facials, creams, cleansers, but my acne persisted. My dermatologist suggested I try Acutane but I refused. I knew there was a reason why I had a sudden change in my skin and I wanted to find the root cause. My dermatologist prescribed me spironolactone, creams and cleansers, but nothing worked. Finally, I realized that I wasn’t treating the underlying issue which was my diet. I could continue to spend all of my time and money trying to treat the break-outs but I realized that I had to heal myself internally. Once I did this, my acne (that I spent a year and a half trying to clear-up), began to heal in just 1 month.

In the pictures above, my skin was at its worst and I was spending a lot of time and money trying chemical peals and facials which didn’t stop the acne, it just helped with scarring and redness. Once I realized this, I began my healing journey starting with my diet.

I spent my money on nutrient dense, high quality food and saved on chemical peels, creams, facials, and doctor’s visits. That’s when I noticed dramatic changes.

One of the major changes I made to heal my skin was eating more fruits and vegetables and cutting out simple carbohydrates. I became more mindful of what I was eating and what my body needed. Whole Foods became my second home, and I started feeling so much better. Diet plays a huge role in balancing our hormones. Hormones cause acne. If you don’t have any underlying conditions that cause hormonal imbalances, i.e. PCOS, diabetes, Hashimoto’s, hypothyroidism, etc. then I recommend looking into your diet to find the root cause of your acne.
