Setting SMART goals

Happy New Year!

Now that we’re close to the end of the month let’s talk New Year’s goals. Did you know, most people will set goals for the year but then quit within week 2? I’m going to tell you why. They are likely not setting SMART goals. Follow this guide to set yourself up for success!

S-Specific

M-Measurable

A-Achievable

R-Relevant

T-Time-Bound

Let’s dive deeper into what this means and how you can apply it to your lifestyle. First, your goal should be specific. For example, you want to be more confident in your body. Specifically, you want to lose fat and get toned. Next, it should be measurable, how much weight i.e. 10 lbs. Is it achievable? You want to be realistic and set a goal that you can reach. Is 10 lbs too much for you? Is it something you can commit to right now? Relevancy is important because it must fit in with your lifestyle. In other words, are you ready to make this change? Is it the right time, under the right circumstances? If so, then setting the time-frame is key for making it happen. You can’t set goals without planning the time-frame. I recommend setting small goals like losing 1 lb each week (varies for each individual) and in 5-weeks you will have reached a 5-lb weight loss. This way, you will gain confidence as you reach these goals and you will keep going!

I hope this helps and you can use it to reach any of your goals this year.

One more thing! The difference between those who are successful and those who are not, is pushing past the challenges. I can promise you there will be challenges but its when you anticipate these challenges and keep pushing past them, that is when you reach your goals, that’s when the magic happens. :)
