Eat the Seasons

One of my favorite things to do in the summer is shop local farmer’s markets. Now that we’re out of season, I shop local by purchasing seasonal foods from my supermarket.

Locally produced, seasonally available produced foods are extremely beneficial to the environment, consumer, and enhances the quality of the food. Food purchased locally from a farmer’s market is more likely to be fresher than from a grocery store.

Here’s a list of reasons why you should eat in season foods.

  1. More of the profits remain with local farmers, helping them sustain an income.

  2. Supports local economy.

  3. Environmentally sustainable by reducing the use of energy (fossil fuels), CO2 emissions, and packaging.

  4. Seasonal food tends to have enhanced freshness, taste, and nutrients.
